We are sorry to inform you that we cannot and will not sell or ship any of the Horse and Hound Hemp products noted with the #sorrycalifornia label into the state of California.
If you would like to purchase hemp seed oil for your dogs in California, or are looking for high quality natural hemp seed oil based, no thc, cbd oil we can present the following suggestions:
Our Horse and Hound Hemp Seed Oil is the same oil, cold pressed from the same hemp seeds, in the same ODA licensed human facility sold for the same price as our Queen of Hearts Nutritional Hemp Seed Oil that we sell to people.
Our Horse and Hound Hemp branded CBD oil for Dogs is the same formula, from the same batches, with the same 3rd party lab testing as our Queen of Hearts Hemp CBD oil ‘Natural’.
In fact, it was when we first had customers with pet shops and dog groomers that enjoyed the quality and efficacy of our products with their pets and wanted to sell them at their locations but noted that our Queen of Hearts Hemp Health Nutrition and Wellness branding didn’t fit, that we started labeling these same products as Horse and Hound.
Why can’t we sell you our Horse and Hound Brand in California?? Well, it’s all about the horse…
California recognizes horses as ‘livestock’ and as per their friendly letter- “the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Commercial Feed and Livestock Drugs Program has the oversight authority over all commercial livestock feed and livestock drugs sold within or into the state of California.” “All hemp and hemp-derived ingredients and cannabis or cannabis-derived ingredients may not be used in commercial feed or livestock drug products, as these ingredients are unapproved for livestock per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and subsequently have not been approved for use in livestock in California”
Since horses are recognized as ‘livestock’ and our ‘pet’ products share a horse on the logo and in the brand name, we may not and will not sell those products into California, even for your dog 🙁
While hemp is legal to grow and hemp foods, including hemp seed oil, have GRAS approval from the FDA- meaning they are known and proven as safe ingredients to be consumed by humans, we are still not able to legally feed them to livestock, and in California that includes horses. This was echo’d in the friendly letter- “CDFA, in part, recognizes ingredients listed in the Official Publication (OP) of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) as being acceptable for use in livestock feed. At this time, there are no approved food additive petitions or ingredient definitions listed in the AAFCO OP for any part of hemp or cannabis”.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?! Support the Hemp Feed Coalition!
The Hemp Feed Coalition is the national non profit organization working with AAFCO, stakeholders and universities to complete the research trials necessary for approval of these ingredients for animal feed. Right now, it is all about funding the studies so that we can move it along. Please support a future for hemp in feed by making a DONATION TO THE HEMP FEED COALITION.
